Leaving Jersey
The Snore is packing it up and heading for the big city. BOLO for a new Big Apple blog, and hopefully a couple of final posts to the Snore to give New Jersey some closure.

Just for the heck of it
I graduated from high school in 1999. This also happened to be, by my contention, the worst year in music history. So here is my list of the 10 best songs/videos of the year (and somehow Sugar Ray didn’t make the list):
10. Steal My Sunshine by Len
9. All the Small Things by Blink 182
8. No Scrubs by TLC
7. Mambo No. 5 by Lou Bega
6. All-Star by Smash Mouth
5. Livin’ La Vida...
Top 10 Reasons Why I Love the World Baseball...
10. Dutch baseball.
9. Starting third baseman for the Italian team: Frank Catalanatto, born: Smithtown, NY.
8. Irananian-Japanese pitcher Yu Darvish.
7. My all-time favorite UNC baseball player is the starting catcher for Team USA.
6. Starting shortstop for the Italian team: Nick Punto, born: San Diego, CA.
5. The mercy rule.
4. “Meaningful” baseball in March.
3. The percentage...

My Hall of Fame Ballot
I enjoyed posting this a year ago, so I decided to weigh in again this year. This could be dangerous as the players I watched religiously as a kid are starting to become eligible, and I think that in most cases I remember them as being a lot better than they probably were.
Harold Baines: No. But perhaps he and David Ortiz and Edgar Martinez should start the DH Hall of Fame.
Jay Bell: No. ...

The Dork Report: CHAMPIONS!!!
Ladies and Gentlemen, the Elvis Impersonators are your 2008 Heelshouse Fantasy Football League Champions! It is our 2nd title in 3 years.
Jerseyversary
It’s been a busy month, and I know I’ve fallen off the blogging map. But I had to drop in to acknowledge that today is my One Year In Jersey Anniversary. How did that happen?!
And for those of you wondering…the Elvis Impersonators are at the top of their division, 2nd in the league, and beginning to peak heading into the playoffs!

My Last Night in Belmar
Although I’m not moving into my new place in Red Bank until Sunday, tonight is my last night in Belmar. I’m in the city the next two days hanging out with my dear friend and Snore reader, Lori, who is in town for the weekend, attending my first show as a Roundabout subscriber, and going to a SoHo book release party.
And on my last night in town, I had the following exchange at Rite...
The Dork Report: Week 8
Ok, I lied. I did not start my originally drafted starters this week. Nervous about how he would return from a broken face, I benched Anquan Boldin in favor of Cedric Benson, then watched Boldin put up 30 points on the bench. But! I still won to go to 5-3 on the season thanks to big games from Brees and LDT. Unfortunately, both of them are on Bye next week. I’ll be spending most of the...

The Dork Report: Weeks 6 & 7
The Elvis Impersonators were not a healthy team the past two weeks and suffered blowout losses. It was a difficult task just filling out my starting lineup. However, after contemplating making several moves to blow-up the current team and start over, I decided to bide my time, let LDT, Colston, Boldin and Scheffler get healthy, and count on the best-in-the-league points of Brees to get me into...
Jersey Nights
Tonight I went with some of my coworkers to see The Toxic Avenger Musical in New Brunswick. I wasn’t sure what to expect from a musical about a green mutant bent on cleaning up New Jersey. But we all agreed the show was a lot of fun. With song titles like “Hot Toxic Love” and “Kick Your Ass”, lots of arms and legs getting torn off, and plenty of jokes about Newark...
The Snore is moving inland
In the next week or so I will be moving to Red Bank, about a half mile from the theatre, into a studio apartment. Red Bank isn’t exactly a Shore town, but it’s close enough. I’ve already posted a Walking Tour, so you can check back through the archives for a taste of my new digs.
The Dork Report: Week 5
(Sorry for the delay…had some issues with Tumblr for a few days)
It’s a sad day in Graceland, Impersonator fans. Or maybe Atlantic City is a more appropriate hometown. Anyway, the wheels came flying off since the last Dork Report culminating in an embarrassing first loss of the season to the previous winless Nasty B. Where to begin? Well, I built this team on WR depth, drafting 3 top...

Sarah Palin says “thanks, but no thanks” to the biggest softball question ever lobbed at any politician….ever. I think she’s basically admitting that all she reads are the tabloids in the grocery line.

This has replaced the David Gregory clip as the video that no matter how many times I watch it, it still makes me giggle. The music is really what kills.

The Dork Report: Week 4
Lots of bye weeks forced me to start Fred Taylor, Edge James, and Chansi Stuckey…at the same time! And still, the Elvis Impersonators rolled to 4-0 to stay atop the league standings. Along with Brees, LDT, and Edge (in a surprising breakout), Anquan Boldin put up big point totals that were more than enough to top the Tar-babbies 157-95. Of course seeing Boldin take that nasty head and have to...

The Dork Report: Week 3
Ladies and Gentlemen, the Elvis Impersonators are 3-0 and alone atop the heelshouse league! I have, admittedly, come about this perfect record with healthy dose of luck. The team didn’t perform very well this week with the exception of Drew Brees and LDT, and those two alone scored enough points to win the game against Hoss for me.
I’m not going to get too excited at the moment, though. I’ve...
Herringbone Redux
It turns out the breaks in the show were intentional. So, disregard the comment about BD having an off night. Though I’m still not sure about it.
Herringbone →
Went to see this at Princeton with a co-worker tonight. BD had a rough night having to stop the show twice, but it didn’t really take away from an outstanding performance. However, the play as a whole was a bit peculiar. Not the best thing I’ve seen recently.
The Dork Report: Week 2
I didn’t get to watch much football Sunday afternoon, let alone check in on the fantasy stats, but was relieved to find once I sat down at my computer that the Elvis Impersonators were cruising right along with out me. In fact, at the time the “Projected Total” for my opponent was about 50 points behind my current score. So at 2-0, the Impersonators sit atop the division and are one of two...
TWIB: This Week In Baseball (with apologies to Mel...
- The only player that I’ve referred to as “my favorite” since my childhood hero, Ryne Sandberg, retired, Big Z Carlos Zambrano pitched a no-hitter in his first game since he was injured 9 days ago. It was the first Cubs no-no since 1972, and the first no-hitter at a neutral site in baseball history.
- The Cubs only competition for a playoff spot just, inexplicably, fired their...
Sylva Herald Item of The Week →
I’d just like to say that I emailed the editor of the Sylva Herald a couple of years ago suggesting a similar idea as this book.
The Dork Report: Week 1
The members of the Heel’s House have occasionally tossed around the idea of having a trophy made up that would reside with the league champion each year. The idea has never really gotten too far since the only two members who have actively petitioned for it are the only two members to ever win the league. That would be myself (1-time champion) and my buddy, Scott (champion every other year of...

The Dork Report: Draft Day
Since I haven’t been blogging much lately, I am introducing a new feature: The Dork Report. This will be a weekly update on my fantasy football team, the Elvis Impersonators. I am fully aware that none of you will care about this, but it is my blog, and this is my “I’m Keith Hernandez” moment.
A little background on the Elvis Impersonators and the Heel’s House League: I have been playing with...

The Pilgrimage
It was nearly impossible to narrow down which pictures to post from the trip my dad and I took to the baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY last week, but here are a few. It’s probably a good thing that we waited so long to visit. With the streets of Cooperstown lined with baseball memorabila stores, if I had gone when I was twelve you wouldn’t have been able to get me to leave.
